So, there hasn't been much activity on the forums or in development news either. What's up? Last I heard there was supposed to be more frequent content updates (as per your dev diary).
This game has lots of potential and i'm waiting to see what direction you guys are heading before shelling out any money. Hopefully you guys haven't run into any major roadblocks...

In general, seems like not many people are visiting the forums either. I'm guessing the hype has died down a bit.

That's good to hear Micheal, do you have any idea how long it will roughly take before Alpha 9 comes out? Weeks or months?

I just heard this conversation (transcribing to English):
Guy 1: "No, that game was a failure."
Guy 2: "Why is that?"
Guy 1: "The development stopped."
Guy 2: "That's a shame, because it could have been great..."
Me: "What game?"
Guy 2: "Under the Ocean."
Me: "They've not stopped, they've been working on a next version."
Guy 1: "No, there hasn't been any activity for months."
Me: "How about the activity in Dwarf Fortress? The last release was somewhere in june 2012, and the development there is still going strong."
Guy 1: "That's different; they've been active a lot, it says so on the site. Under the Ocean is dead."
So I checked, and it does seem that I was right; there is indeed a next version in the works. However, I suspect quite a few people don't know about that, and assume the project has died.

We aren't too far off having screenshots of the new build, we are hoping to release it very early 2014 but yea, progress is much slower with the feature list. For what its worth, I update the steam thread daily with feature checks.

Yeah, months away, months. get off the forum i you think your getting a patch any time before may 2014.
or even summer.

For what it's worth i thin k you're really brave to totally change the game, it's a big risk because going back to the drawing board takes lot's of time. However making a game that's up to your own standards pays off keep developing really interested in how it will turn out !
