We've just released Alpha 7, which removes the always available construction mode and replaces it with a construction bench; it should be in your recipes section!
Animals are now dissected by right clicking on a knife, and left clicking on the animal.
Hope that helps!

getting planks from trees doesn't work 95% of the time so good luck crafting a bench/work bench. I would assume they will have a patch to fix this shortly. welcome to the game Maxi, please remember this is alpha.

7.01 will fix the planks bug! It's that you can't get them from larger trees. Help text on the knife is coming as well

You need the advanced construction bench to be able to change layers! We thought it would be a good progression, since we didn't want to throw UI at players too quickly.
